Ukrainians who left abroad during the war are increasingly considering the possibility of returning home. This was reported by Viktor Mykyta, the former head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and deputy head of the President's Office. The main reasons for returning include improved working conditions and wages that are getting closer to European standards.

According to him, residents of Transcarpathia have started returning from abroad and getting jobs in local enterprises. Working conditions and wages at Transcarpathian enterprises are already on par with those in EU countries, however, people note that abroad they lose contact with their families and incur additional expenses for housing rent.

People who have already returned to Transcarpathia are convincing their relatives and acquaintances to come back home, reserving jobs for them nearby, showing the real state of affairs by their own example. This is an important signal for the state and a result of prolonged focused work at all levels. We clearly understand what this means

According to Mykyta, a significant proportion of those returning are Hungarian Ukrainians who find work in new companies in the Berehove district.

The deputy head of the President's Office noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the regions to enhance efforts to attract citizens who are abroad to employment and to provide education for their children.

We are analyzing the situation in other regions and communities of the country. We communicate with those who have returned, study the situation and motivations of each, in order to create favorable conditions for the return of all our people

In 2024, Ukrainians made 30.11 million crossings of the state border, but 2% of them did not return, which amounts to about half a million people. The number of citizens who remained abroad tripled compared to the previous year.

It is also worth noting that Ukraine is ready to offer jobs at defense enterprises with protection from potential mobilization for Ukrainians who are abroad. This was stated by the Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov.

A pilot project planned for the beginning of 2025 is expected to help Ukrainians return from abroad.
