World Basketball Championship: Ukraine has made it to the first pot for the draw.
FIBA has announced the seeding in the pre-qualifying round of the 2027 World Championship
The Basketball Federation of Ukraine announced that FIBA has revealed the seeding of teams in the second round of the pre-qualifying for the men's World Championship 2027. The draw will take place on March 14 in Switzerland.
The second round will feature 12 national teams, including the Ukrainian men's national team. Eight teams that finished last in the main qualification for EuroBasket 2025 and four winners of the first pre-qualification will compete in this round.
Among the teams playing in the second round are Croatia, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Denmark, Slovakia, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, and Norway.
12 teams will be divided into four groups. Two teams from each group will advance to the main qualification for the World Championship. The distribution of teams was based on the FIBA ranking. Ukraine, Croatia, Hungary, and Bulgaria are in the first pot, so they will not play against each other in this round.
- Pot 1: Croatia, Ukraine, Hungary, Bulgaria
- Pot 2: Netherlands, North Macedonia, Denmark, Slovakia
- Pot 3: Switzerland, Romania, Austria, Norway
Each team will play two home and two away matches in the pre-qualification. Matches are preliminarily scheduled for August 2, 5, 9, 13, 16, and 20. The main qualification will begin in November 2025.
