Chelsea ready to offer £50 million for Fermín López

According to The Sun: Chelsea intends to make a £50 million offer for Barcelona midfielder Fermín López as the club steps up its search for a new midfielder.

It was previously believed that the main transfer target for the 'Blues' was RB Leipzig - Xavi Simons. However, Chelsea has recently received confirmation that Fermín is open to considering a move.

According to sources, Chelsea is interested in this versatile midfielder, but 'Barcelona' is reluctant to let the player go, believing that his value exceeds £50 million.

However, selling Fermín could help 'Barça' in terms of financial fair play, especially after registering Marcus Rashford.

His current contract with the club runs until 2029, with a release clause of £430 million and an annual salary of £5.2 million.

Reports suggest that the 'Blues' are prepared to offer him up to £13 million per year, which would make him one of the highest-paid players at Stamford Bridge.

A competitive atmosphere

Fermín can play on the left flank or in central midfield in a more attacking role, making him similar in characteristics to Simons.

He is the only player other than Lionel Messi at 'Barça' who has managed to score and provide assists for two or more goals in a single game for the La Liga champions. Last season he scored eight goals and provided ten assists.

At 'Barça', he competes for his place with players like Dani Olmo, Gavi, Pedri, as well as Raphinha and Marcus Rashford on the left flank.

Earlier in the transfer window, the La Masia graduate reassured 'Barça' fans that he has no intention of leaving the club, saying:

“Barcelona fans can sleep easy as I will stay here… I won't leave Barça.”

Will Fermín consider Chelsea's offer?

However, according to reports from Sport in Spain, he is seriously considering a move to Chelsea due to their salary offer, the lack of regular playing time at Barcelona, and personal calls from Enzo Maresca.

It is also noted that an even higher offer, around £60 million, could prompt Barcelona to agree to the transfer.

Chelsea is unlikely to make a decision regarding the transfers of López, Simons, and Alejandro Garancho before the window closes. The club needs to sell Christopher Nkunku before taking serious steps to sign an attacking midfielder.

Nicolas Jackson could also bring Chelsea a significant amount as the forward completes a deal with Bayer, according to SunSport, although the club may not receive the full amount of this deal in this transfer window.

Meanwhile, the 'Blues' have completed deals in recent days for Carney Chukwuemeka from Dortmund, and the club continues to try to sell players like Raheem Sterling and other team members before the transfer window closes.

Thus, the transfer of Fermín López to Chelsea could be an important step for both clubs. For the 'Blues' it is an opportunity to strengthen their midfield, while 'Barcelona' could resolve financial issues through a potential sale. Fermín must carefully weigh all factors before making a decision about his next career move.
