Justice for Sheryl

According to The Sun: Sheryl, in an emotional statement, noted that her stalker had made her life 'disturbed' and 'unprotected in her own home'. After Daniel Bannister, already previously convicted, attempted to contact her in Buckinghamshire, she constantly felt 'nervous and anxious'.

Bannister's harassment began on January 25, 2024, when he appeared on the property of Sheryl. His 'unwanted and frightening' behavior scared the singer, leaving her in constant anxiety. In her statement, Sheryl noted that since then she has been constantly 'looking over her shoulder, wherever she goes.'

After considering the case, the court issued a restraining order against Bannister, as the 50-year-old man left the 41-year-old singer, who is raising her eight-year-old son Bear, in a state of 'fear and lack of safety at home'. Nevertheless, Sheryl emphasized that the punishment did not stop him nor made him realize that such behavior is completely unacceptable.

Terrible Experience

The court presented a video recording in which Bannister rings Sheryl's intercom for the second time. You can see him pressing the button and waving to the camera before disappearing without waiting for a response. In her statement, Sheryl admitted that such unwanted behavior scared both her and her son greatly.

"I have a small child that I have to protect at home, where Daniel keeps appearing... Daniel also scared my child," she stated.

Judge Alan Blake sentenced Bannister to 12 months in prison, noting that 'she does not wish to have any contact with you'. It is known that Bannister has previously been convicted of manslaughter in 2012.

Officers arrested Bannister on June 19 when he again attempted to show up at Sheryl's. The court learned that he arrived by taxi at 9:59 PM and rang the bell, insisting that the singer had invited him through Microsoft Teams.

Ongoing Harassment

Sheryl's harassment began on January 25 of last year when Bannister approached her security camera and said: 'It’s Daniel. I came for Sheryl.' In July 2024, he again attempted to make contact, asking through the intercom: 'I really want to drink. May I have a glass of wine, please?'

Bannister was arrested and sentenced to four months in September 2024, and also received a three-year restraining order. However, on December 10 of that same year, after his release from prison, he returned to her home. Sheryl reported to the police that she 'felt fear for her safety and the safety of her son.'

Bannister was again sentenced to 16 weeks in March, and a lifelong restraining order was issued against him. This happened just weeks after Sheryl attended the funeral of her ex, One Direction star and father of Bear, Liam Payne, who tragically died in Buenos Aires last October.

Lastly, it is worth noting that Bannister has prior convictions for manslaughter in 2012, when he committed a 'continuing' fatal attack on Rajendra Patel.

Ian Whittaker PA Essentially, such a situation highlights the seriousness of the stalking problem that many people face, and the need to take such cases seriously. Ensuring the safety of victims and their families is an important task for law enforcement and society as a whole.
