Frost in Ukraine: Are Strong Power Outages a Threat?.
According to ТСН: In the case of strong frosts in Ukraine, it is possible that electricity outages may be prolonged, but the situation will not be critical.
This was announced by energy expert Oleksandr Holizdra, head of the Energy Development League of Ukraine.
“Regarding the frosts: nothing critical is expected to happen in two days. The head of 'Ukrenergo' stated that a critical situation for the electricity transmission and distribution system could arise when ten-degree frosts last for a week. A day or two will not significantly affect the state of the energy system,” he assured.
According to him, a drop in temperature significantly increases electricity consumption.
“A short-term cold snap lasting two days should not cause significant impact. Everything depends on consumption. If consumers use electricity rationally — that is one situation. If they massively turn on air conditioners and heaters — that is another,” he added.
It should be noted that according to meteorologists, frost is observed in Ukraine, with temperatures expected to reach -13 degrees in some regions. Warming is anticipated from December 26.
Therefore, experts reassure that short-term frosts will not become a reason for a failure of the energy system. It is important for consumers to adhere to rational use of electricity, as this can significantly affect the situation. The approaching warmer weather may also improve the electricity supply situation.
