Onion prices have fallen by 20%: what caused the sharp decline.
According to inkorr.com: Onion prices in Ukraine have once again shocked with their decline. Currently, this vegetable can be purchased for 6-13 hryvnias per kilogram, which is approximately 15-31 cents per dollar. This is 20% less compared to last week. What are the reasons for such sharp changes in price?
It turns out that late varieties of onions, harvested in the northern and western regions of Ukraine, are entering the market. This has led to a significant increase in supply, forcing farmers to urgently sell their goods to avoid losses. As a result, onion prices are sharply falling.
Producers report that they are primarily selling onions that do not store well due to their quality. Farmers are in a hurry to get rid of it so as not to lose money,' experts in the industry explain.
Difficult situation in the market
Despite the price reduction, the situation in the onion market remains complicated. Currently, prices are 24% lower than in the same period last year. However, this year's harvest turned out to be smaller due to adverse weather conditions, so prices might rise again in the future.
Farmers again face challenges with onion prices, but this time the fluctuations are downward. Considering that onions are one of the main vegetable crops in the diet of Ukrainians, further price changes may impact households and consumers differently. Therefore, it is important to monitor market trends.
