Marc Guehi may leave Crystal Palace: who is vying for the England international defender.
According to The Sun: Crystal Palace is likely to sell Marc Guehi, despite coach Glasner's desire to keep him
“If he doesn’t want to extend his contract, we’ll have to consider it. It’s a tough situation. If you’re in Europe, the financial rules are much stricter than in the Premier League. Players leaving for free is not an ideal situation for a football club. This is a situation we will have to address over the next 11 days.”
The England defender, who led Palace to a 1-0 victory over Fredrikstad in their first European match, has only one year left on his contract. Palace's head, unwilling to let a key asset leave for free, stated that the situation would be resolved in the coming days.
Reports suggest that Premier League champions Liverpool are still interested in Guehi, and the player is valued at around £35 million. Palace rejected a £70 million offer from Tottenham last year.
Despite the fact that Palace has only signed two senior players this summer, a lack of options in defense has been evident, and they were forced to play midfielder Jefferson Lerma as a centre-back. Glasner emphasized the importance of retaining Guehi, stating that his departure would leave the team with serious problems.
“I just know that if Marc leaves the team and is unavailable for the match against Fredrikstad, we will have big problems. This is quite obvious. We cannot register anyone. So from my point of view, he has to stay.”
Head coach Glasner also pointed out the absence of midfielder Eberechi Eze, who missed the game due to illness. Eze is reportedly close to a move to Arsenal for £67.5 million, and Glasner believes his chances of playing for Palace again are very slim.
Palace started the match with Guehi, Lerma, and Maxence Lacroix in a three-man defense, highlighting the lack of depth in the team's defense. U.S. national team center-back Chris Richards was sitting on the bench, while Chadli Riadi is out due to injury.
This news discusses the potential sale of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, although the team's coach expresses a desire to keep the player. It highlights Guehi's importance to the team and the problems that may arise should he depart. The possible transfer of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal and the lack of other options in Palace's defense are also mentioned.
