Decommunization: Parliament supported the renaming of over a hundred courts.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law on changing the names of courts in Ukraine. This was reported by MP Iryna Herashchenko.
The draft law was supported by 277 deputies.
«Imagine, in some cities of Ukraine, there were courts named after Lenin, Dzerzhinsky, Kirov. Over 100 courts bore the names of murderers and torturers from the times of Soviet terror», - said Iryna Herashchenko.
The change of names of local general courts will not lead to the creation of a new court or its reorganization or liquidation. A total of 103 names will be changed across Ukraine, including temporarily occupied territories.
Let us remind you that the village of Pershotravneve in Odesa region was renamed Huriivske in honor of the soldiers of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense as part of the decommunization process.
Also, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II decided to remove Russian and Belarusian cities from the Alley of Hero Cities.
In addition, the Transcarpathian Regional Council held an event to commemorate the former first secretary of the Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Yuriy Ilnytskyi, who headed the region for 18 years - from 1962 to 1980.
