The state registers of Ukraine have suffered a large-scale cyberattack: details from the Ministry of Justice.
A large-scale cyberattack on the registers of Ukraine
On December 19, the most extensive external cyberattack on the state registers of Ukraine in recent times occurred. This was reported by Olha Stefanishyna, Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Minister of Justice of Ukraine.
This targeted attack led to the temporary suspension of the Unified and State Registers, which are subordinate to the Ministry of Justice.
“Right now, together with the team and specialists from other services, we are coordinating efforts to counter the cyberattacks and restore the systems. It is already clear that the attack was carried out by Russians aimed at disrupting the operation of the critically important infrastructure of the state,” Stefanishyna stated.
Experts are working on restoring access to the registers. Currently, there is no threat to the operation of other resources.
The first to be restored will be:
- The State Register of Civil Status Acts
- The Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs
- The State Register of Property Rights and Their Encumbrances.
The first restoration will take about two weeks.
“The specifics of providing services to citizens will be ensured throughout the day. After full restoration, a thorough analysis of the attack will be conducted in cooperation with relevant authorities to strengthen protection against similar intrusions in the future. We are keeping the situation under control and doing everything necessary for the quickest recovery of all services,” Stefanishyna assured.
Earlier in the evening, there was a serious failure in the operation of state registers at the level of network infrastructure.
Additionally, a significant failure occurred in the application 'Reserve+'.
