Half of Ukrainian Refugees May Return Home Despite Earning High Salaries Abroad.
Ukrainian Refugees’ Plans to Go Back
According to Novyny.live: Even with stable incomes reaching up to 1,500 euros per month, up to 50% of Ukrainian refugees intend to return to Ukraine once the war ends. Serhiy Kozyr, a member of parliament from the 'Servant of the People' party, explains that many are simply waiting for peace and security to be restored. Financial stability alone has not outweighed their emotional and cultural ties to their homeland.
Currently, around 4 million Ukrainians are living abroad. Kozyr points out that receiving 75,000 hryvnias in assistance does not mean someone has fully assimilated into a new environment. This shows that despite their financial means, many Ukrainians still feel a strong connection to their native land and want to come back.
Lessons from Switzerland and Reintegration
Andriy Sybiha has emphasized that Ukraine plans to adopt Switzerland’s approach to managing refugee returns. This strategy could be a crucial step in rebuilding the country after the war and helping Ukrainians who were forced to flee reintegrate into society.
The issue of bringing refugees back is complex and has many layers, requiring a well-rounded strategy. Successful reintegration could greatly boost the country’s recovery, especially in areas like economic growth, social stability, and infrastructure repair. To make this happen, Ukraine must create safe conditions for returnees and offer them the necessary support and resources.
