Ukraine expects to import equipment for over 1 GW for distributed electricity generation

By the end of this year, Ukraine plans to import equipment for over 1 GW for distributed electricity generation, but it will not be put into operation until January next year, said Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko in an interview with Forbes.

According to him, the necessary installations have already been set up in some cities, but their connection to the grids will only be carried out next year. He also noted that electricity generation is being distributed both by state companies and private businesses that generate energy and feed it into the state grid. These projects, according to the minister, are important and will be very useful during the war, as they will ensure the supply of electricity to critical infrastructure in case of a blackout.

Galushchenko emphasized that the state has canceled many requirements in recent years that slowed down the development of electricity generation. However, these simplified decisions often lead to problems, particularly with grid connections.

President Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine has a plan to build up to 1 GW of maneuverable gas generation this year and another 4 GW in the coming years.

The United Nations predicted the duration of blackouts in Ukraine during the winter would be from 4 to 18 hours a day, but the Ministry of Energy disputed this forecast.

The government urged Ukrainians not to worry about energy supply issues since there will be no problems with electricity until the end of October and in November, and significant power outages are not expected this winter.

In addition, the European Commission and Ukraine's partners from G7 countries have raised over $4 billion for the restoration of energy infrastructure, which will increase the maximum volume of electricity supplied to the country.
