Asteroid 2024 YR4 is approaching Earth: is there a risk of collision.
Astronomers are monitoring the newly discovered asteroid 2024 YR4, which could collide with Earth in 2032. Despite the very low probability of a collision, researchers are studying the asteroid's trajectory to obtain more accurate data. They are also trying to determine the size of the asteroid, estimated to be between 40 and 90 meters. This will help understand the consequences of a potential collision with Earth. Asteroids of this size hit our planet every few thousand years and can cause significant damage. Examples of such collisions include the asteroid that exploded over Siberia in 1908, destroying forests over an area of 2,150 square kilometers, as well as the asteroid that entered Earth's atmosphere in 2013, exploded, and caused significant destruction, injuring many people. Currently, the asteroid is moving away from Earth and is at a distance of over 48 million kilometers. If it disappears from view before scientists can rule out the possibility of a collision, it will remain on the list of potentially hazardous objects and will only become noticeable again in June 2028. This information is reported by the University of Hawaii.
The news also mentions that a Chinese company has begun selling tickets for a flight into outer space planned for 2027.
