According to The Sun: Emotional Jessie J performed for the first time after breast removal surgery.
The 37-year-old singer revealed in June this year that she is battling breast cancer and underwent surgery.
Jessie J performed for the first time after breast removal surgery Splash SplashJessie recently informed her fans about a planned second operation next month.
However, before the procedure, the singer returned to the stage on Saturday, performing at BBC Radio 2 In The Park in Chelmsford, Essex.
Emotional performance
When Jessie stepped onto the stage, she was met with loud applause.
She was very emotional when she told the festival audience:
“Some of you may know, and some may not, but I had breast cancer surgery 11 weeks ago today.'
“At the last performance, I didn't know what was going to happen next, I'm still recovering, but I'm definitely not ready for Babins.'
“I mean, I'm ready, but my doctors say: 'calm down, girl.' You know, you can take the girl out of Essex, but you can't take Essex out of the girl.'
“But I am so grateful to be here, you have no idea how nice it is to see so many people singing along after all these years.'
“It truly feels like I'm a little kid. I'm still doing what I love.”
The singer also pleasantly surprised fans by inviting her two-year-old son Skye on stage.
“And one more special thing happening today is that my son is seeing me sing on stage for the first time.”
New song
The singer performed her new track titled “Living My Best Life,” noting that it holds special significance.
“Some of you may know it, and some may not, but what this song is about is that I found out about the diagnosis two weeks before its release, and everyone was saying: 'let's stop, let's put everything on hold,' and I said: 'this is not what life is about.'
“Life is about standing in the storm, holding your umbrella, and just keeping moving forward.”
“And music, I don't know about you, but for me, music is medicine.”
“Music is what makes me wake up in the morning and just makes me happy to be alive.”
“I'm grateful that I can create music that can give others something they may need on a tough day or a good one.”
“So this song is called 'Living My Best Life,' and that's what I do every day.”
“Since we never know when our last day will be, so enjoy it, hug the people you love.”
Jessie also noted that her upcoming procedure “won't be anything serious,” but “needs to be done by the end of the year.”
She revealed that she canceled her tour in the US and postponed her UK tour as the surgery will take place in October – right during her European tour.
“I’m really sorry, I feel disappointed and sad.”
“But I need to heal, I need to get back on my feet, and this is the right decision.”
Jessie remains hopeful as doctors have said the cancer was detected in its early stages.
In the weeks following, she underwent a mastectomy and openly spoke about the physical and emotional burden of treatment.
In a touching post, Jessie shared how her son comforted her before the surgery, saying:
“Mom will be okay.”
The singer learned that the cancer had not spread, but she speaks about the ongoing challenges of recovery.
Jessie, whose real name is Jessie Cornish, first detailed how she learned about her diagnosis.
In an interview, she opened up to Jamie Laing on his podcast “Great Company,” sharing that doctors initially said everything looked healthy and there was no particular cause for concern.
However, Jessie's symptoms, including a “very painful” arm and numbness every morning, did not go away and led to a biopsy the day after her 37th birthday.
Doctors reported that she had “high-grade cancer cells.”
In her update for followers on social media, the singer shared that she was back in the hospital six weeks after the surgery.
She posted a photo from the hospital and wrote:
“This is how I spent the last 24 hours.”
“Six weeks after surgery, and I’m back in the same ward I was in after the operation. Unexpected and unplanned.”
She explained:
“I have had and still have symptoms indicating a thrombus in my lungs. IT'S NOT A THROMBUS, THANK GOD. [But] they conducted a lot of tests, revealing that I have an infection (still trying to figure out what it is) and some fluid in my lungs.”
“It’s hard for me to breathe, but I was discharged from the hospital last night (I hate being in the hospital) and will continue the investigation on an outpatient basis.”
