Complete rejection of Russian fuel by the EU - European Commission plan

The European Commission is preparing a plan that envisages a complete rejection of Russian fossil fuels in the European Union market. This news was announced by European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen during a briefing in Brussels on January 20.

'Regarding the plan or roadmap for the complete rejection of Russian fossil fuels by the European Union, this is ongoing. It was announced as something that the Energy Commission would present in the first 100 days of its mandate, so we still have a few days left until that deadline,' noted the European Commission representative.

Itkonen noted that the European Union has already made significant progress in reducing dependence on Russian energy resources. In particular, coal imports have been completely halted, oil supplies have been significantly reduced, and the consumption of Russian gas has been cut by more than two-thirds.

However, the European Commission spokesperson expressed concern about the presence of Russian gas in the European market.

'Despite these significant results, Russian gas is still present in the EU market. And this is something we would not like to see, and this is certainly one of the issues that will be addressed in this roadmap,' emphasized Itkonen.

It is expected that the new plan will be presented in the coming weeks and will contain specific steps towards a complete cessation of imports of Russian energy resources to the European Union.

Earlier, Poland has almost stopped purchasing Russian LNG.
