According to UATV: The European Commission has approved funding requests from eight member states under the SAFE program, aimed at bolstering their security capabilities. This significant financial package reflects the EU's strategic response to an increasingly uncertain geopolitical landscape.

  • Bulgaria
  • Denmark
  • Spain
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Portugal
  • Romania

These nations will collectively receive €38 billion once the necessary loan agreements are formally signed.

The funding levels for each country were determined in September. Following the Commission's assessment, the Council of the European Union now has a four-week window to make its final decision on the disbursements. This move follows last year's broader EU commitment, which mobilized up to €800 billion for defense-related purposes.

The Council must now urgently approve these plans to ensure the swift release of funds.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission

The Commission's decision underscores the bloc's heightened focus on security and resilience in the face of global challenges. The allocated funds are intended to strengthen the defense capabilities and regional stability of the recipient countries. Expediting these financial plans is considered a crucial step for reinforcing Europe's collective security and defense posture.
