FIFA has returned Russians to committees: who has received positions.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced that four representatives of the Russian Football Union (RFU) have been included in the updated compositions of the organization's committees and commissions. This was reported by 'Glavkom'.
New members of FIFA committees
According to inkorr.com: RFU President Alexander Dyukov remains a member of the men’s club competitions committee. RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov has joined the Football Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Committee. The head of the RFU Women’s Football Committee, Polina Yumasheva, has also become part of the Governance and Audit Committee, while lawyer Larisa Zakharova has joined the Appeals Committee.
Long-term appointment
Dyukov, Mitrofanov, Yumasheva, and Zakharova were elected for a four-year term, which will last until 2029. It is worth noting that Russian clubs and national teams have been suspended from participating in UEFA and FIFA competitions since 2022 due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Restoring cooperation
The participation of Russian representatives in FIFA committees indicates a certain restoration of cooperation between this organization and the RFU after sanctions against Russian football were imposed in light of political events. This may affect the possible participation of Russian teams in international competitions and further cooperation with other countries in developing football on a global scale.
Despite the serious blow dealt to Russian football by international sanctions, the restoration of its representatives' participation in FIFA structures could become an important step towards returning to international competitions. At the same time, the situation remains tense, and further actions by federations may significantly impact the development of events in the football world.
