At that time, Florence announced that the group would not be able to perform at several scheduled European concerts, but did not disclose details.
The singer shared her experiences, noting that the surgery was related to reasons she still did not feel strong enough to talk about. However, she has now decided to openly discuss everything.
In a serious interview, Florence recalled that she was expecting her first child with her then-boyfriend, a musician.
She told The Guardian that getting pregnant at 37 was a 'huge shock' for her, but the news about the pregnancy seemed 'wonderful.'
However, early in the pregnancy, while the couple kept it a secret, Florence confessed: 'I had an ectopic pregnancy right on stage.'
When discussing her psychological state, she added: 'I thought that since it was my first pregnancy experience and first miscarriage, it was part of that.'
Florence also admitted that it was 'devastating.'
WHAT IS ECTOPIC PREGNANCY
Ectopic pregnancy occurs in approximately 1 in 80–90 pregnancies, or 11,000 cases per year, according to NHS data.
This happens when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus.
The formation, when sperm meets egg, takes place in the fallopian tube, and normally the egg should travel to the uterus where it implants.
In an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized egg attaches somewhere it cannot grow.
Pregnancy usually does not last more than 12 weeks because symptoms arise before this period.
Unfortunately, the pregnancy must always be terminated. The egg is removed during surgery or with medication.
FLORENCE'S PAIN
During the same interview, she boldly spoke about the moment of losing her child.
Florence emphasized: 'I was outside, in the rain and wind, and just felt something passing through me.'
'I felt as if it overwhelmed me, the safe space of performance always is.'
Then she recounted how she visited a doctor when she started bleeding before a concert, confessing that she began to panic when the doctor was delayed.
She explained: 'I had blood in my belly, like in a can of Coke.'
Florence was urgently hospitalized within an hour, but her fallopian tube could not be saved.
After hospitalization, she needed to perform at another show, but she admitted: 'If I had gotten on that plane, I would have come off it on a stretcher. Or worse.'
TOUR STATEMENT
In 2023, she informed fans that the group would not be performing at Zurich Open Air Festival on August 25 or Rock En Seine on August 26 for medical reasons.
The band's last performance that year took place on August 13 at Boardmasters in Cornwall.
In 2022, Florence had to cancel a UK tour due to a leg injury, but at that time clarified that her leg was fine.
In her statement at that time, she wrote: 'I'm very sorry for having to cancel several recent shows.'
'My legs are fine, I needed urgent surgery for reasons I still don't feel strong enough to talk about, but it saved my life.'
'I'll be back to finish the Dance Fever tour in Lisbon and Málaga (maybe not jump so much, but you can do that for me).'
Florence wished everyone strength in dealing with difficult topics, stating: 'Accordingly, I wish songs were less accurate in their predictions. But creativity is a way to cope, mythology is a way to understand.'
