Death of footballer Vigar: club representative received threats due to the tragedy.
Death of Billy Vigar sparked outrage
According to The Sun: The head of Wingate & Finchley reported receiving threats to life after the tragic death of Billy Vigar.
The former youth player of Arsenal, Vigar, died at the age of 21 after sustaining severe injuries during a match for Chichester against Wingate & Finchley last Saturday in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

Unfortunately, he died from his injuries after the surgery.
The horrific incident at Maurice Rebak Stadium prompted calls to ban brick walls around football fields in the UK. A petition on this matter has gathered over 9,000 signatures, and the Football Association has begun reviewing the issue.
In the emotional days following Vigar's death, a 'senior figure' from Wingate & Finchley claims they received 'death threats,' blaming the club for what happened.
“I received death threats, I feel threatened. My son does too. It’s awful because there is a poor guy and his family at the center of this. Everyone blames us for what happened. We are all here mourning. Everything we do is voluntary. I do a lot for this community, you can ask, and it’s just awful.”

After news of Vigar's death, Wingate & Finchley released a statement in his memory.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of Billy Vigar’s passing. Our sincere condolences go to Billy’s family and our friends in Chichester at this incredibly difficult time.”
Matches originally scheduled for today for Wingate & Finchley and Chichester have been postponed. Wingate & Finchley’s next game was supposed to take place at Maurice Rebak Stadium on Tuesday, but the match against Folkestone Invicta has been canceled.
The match for Enfield Borough, which also hosts home games at Maurice Rebak Stadium, has been postponed as well.
Opponents Clapton CFC, in a statement reposted by Enfield Borough, noted: “In light of Billy Vigar’s death following the incident at Maurice Rebak Stadium, our game there against Enfield Borough has been canceled. Eternal memory of Billy.”
Call for changes in safety
Dorking Wanderers owner, Mark White, has been actively supporting the idea of banning brick walls on fields.
The 51-year-old White hopes that the tragic death of Vigar will be a catalyst for necessary changes. He previously tweeted: “All clubs need the FA to initiate an urgent investigation regarding the surroundings of the fields. Many of them are dangerous, and players always have to be careful due to proximity to the field. But some just don’t move and are deadly dangerous. They need to be removed immediately.”
In summary, the tragedy that occurred during the match has sparked serious discussion about safety at football fields. Involving the wider community and taking action by the Football Association could be an important step in preventing similar incidents in the future. It is crucial to continue the dialogue about safe conditions for players and fans, as well as to pay attention to necessary changes in safety regulations at stadiums.Read also
