The 72nd Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been defending Vuhledar in Donetsk region for almost two years. Analyst David Axe claims that they are at risk of being encircled and cut off as Russian occupation forces continue to advance north of the city. The Ukrainian analytical group Frontelligence Insight also confirms this. According to David Axe, the mined roads and fields near Vuhledar have become a trap for the Russians advancing in armored vehicles. Ukrainians are effectively resisting the occupiers. The roads through Vodiane, a few miles to the north, are less dangerous, so the Russians are using them to advance under cover of military aircraft. According to Axe, even the best-equipped brigade cannot withstand without respite for two years.

Ukraine needs help or brigade replacement

Ukraine does not have the resources to provide assistance or replace the 72nd Mechanized Brigade. According to the analyst, the Ukrainian armed forces are simultaneously advancing on Kursk and defending in the east and south. President Zelensky stated that the new brigades lack modern equipment. For two years, the 72nd Brigade has been performing the difficult task of defending Vuhledar from enemy forces that always prevail. However, it needs help or replacement. The brigade commander, Ivan Vynnyk, has been relieved of his duties.

Attempts of Russian occupiers to capture Vuhledar

The Russian occupiers are intensifying attempts to capture Vuhledar in order to prevent the redeployment of Ukrainian troops to strengthen the defense of Pokrovsk. According to DeepState analysts, the enemy is trying to encircle the city of Vuhledar.
