Mark Blundell has been banned from driving for six months
According to The Sun: Former Formula 1 star and TV presenter Mark Blundell has received a punishment in the form of a six-month driving ban.
The verdict was issued after the 59-year-old athlete was caught speeding - he was driving at 96 miles per hour.
GettyThe offense occurred on November 30 of last year at 11:50 on the A14 Cold Ashby road near Junction 1 Overbridge in Northamptonshire. Blundell was driving a Land Rover, exceeding the allowed limit of 70 miles per hour by 26 miles.
The three-time Formula 1 podium finisher and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1990s did not appear at the hearing at Northampton Court on October 8, however, his lawyer pleaded guilty on his behalf.
Blundell has received five penalty points on his driving license and must also pay £1,042 in fines, costs, and compensation.
The British driver had a career spanning three decades and covered various motorsport series, including Formula 1, IndyCar, Le Mans, World Rally Championships, as well as British GT and Touring Car Championships.
In Formula 1, Blundell competed with four teams: Brabham, Ligier, Tyrrell, and McLaren, over four seasons (1991, 1993–1995), achieving three third places from 61 starts.
In 1992, he made motorsport history by winning the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans with Peugeot, and ten years later, in 2003, he finished second in the race with Bentley.
After retiring from racing, Blundell transitioned to television analysis, appearing in Formula 1 broadcasts on ITV from 2002 to 2008, until the channel lost the rights to cover the competitions in favor of the BBC.
In this situation, it is worth noting that traffic violations by high-profile individuals often attract attention. Drivers, regardless of social status, must adhere to the rules to ensure safety on the roads. This punishment for Blundell may serve as an example for other drivers, highlighting the importance of responsible driving. Read also
