Anthony Joshua purchased a historic punching bag for 30 years: what the money was spent on.
Joshua's donation to the boxing club
According to The Sun: Anthony Joshua, the famous British boxer, made a generous donation to a well-known amateur boxing club in exchange for an old punching bag that had served for 30 years.
The London 2012 legend, now 35 years old, noticed a video shared by Sheffield coach Dominic Ingle, the son of famous trainer Brendan, which showed this old heavy bag that was set up three decades ago.
YouTubeAs soon as one of Joshua's teams reached out to Ingle, he readily agreed to pass on one of the antique punching bags that had just been lying under the ring at Wincobank.
In response to this gesture, Joshua made a significant contribution to the St. Thomas boxing club, which nurtures future champions and improves the lives of many local children.
About the heavy bag
The famous bags made by Ingle are extremely heavy; the one purchased by Joshua weighs a full 96.5 kg. The green bag, which still hangs in the boxing school in Yorkshire, is secured to the ceiling with a steel beam.
This bag has been used by British boxing stars such as Prince Naseem Hamed, Herol Graham, Ryan Rhodes, Johnny Nelson, and Kell Brook.

Ingle noted:
“These bags have historical significance. I even have a photo of Anthony Joshua when he came to spar with Richard Towers many years ago, and he probably hit this bag without even realizing it.”
“This ancient method has served us for over 40 years. Brendan made these bags to a special design, as all other bags would tear apart due to their weight and scrapes.”
Ingle also added that now this bag is with Joshua and hopes that the boxer will take care of it, as it is part of boxing history.
This is not the first time Joshua has helped amateur boxing, from which his sporting career began.
In 2020, during the lockdown, Joshua personally saved hundreds of clubs by donating money from his pocket and providing necessary equipment to sports in underprivileged areas of the country.
However, Joshua's new bag will not be used during the fight with YouTuber Jake Paul.
The boxer, who claims he will become a world champion, signed a deal for a fight with lightweight Gervonta Davis as part of an extravagant show.
This gesture by Joshua emphasizes his commitment to the development of amateur boxing in Britain, especially in light of the biases and difficulties faced by sports clubs. His support will not only contribute to the popularity of the sport among youth but will also help create conditions for nurturing new champions who may soon appear in the rings at the world level.Read also
