Prepare supplies for war: families in Norway received 'disturbing' brochure.
All families in Norway received postcards with a list of necessary supplies for emergencies. The list includes having bottled water, food, candles, a radio receiver, cash, and iodine tablets at home. This postcard was published in 2018, but now it has been updated.
Director of the Civil Protection Directorate Elizabeth Aarsæther stated that the risks to the country's security are significantly increasing. 'The 2018 brochure was released with a light smile. Now it is not a joke. This is reality. Six years ago, we talked about having three days of food and water supply, and now we ask people to take care of themselves for at least one week,' she said.
Aarsæther also noted that one of the biggest risks is climate change, as it is particularly relevant for Norway. 'But, of course, war is what worries people. If we were not afraid of a nuclear strike, we would not recommend stocking up on iodine tablets,' she added.
The Director of the Norwegian Defence Research Institute Kjell Inge believes that Moscow will not risk going to war against NATO. 'Because it is obvious that Russia would lose in such a war. However, that is why it uses various hybrid methods,' he added.
Norway has already faced hybrid attacks from Russia. Surveys have shown that 64% of the country's citizens are concerned about war or invasion, 82% about sabotage on critical infrastructure objects, and 91% about cyber-attacks.
Sweden and Norway, which are pioneers of the 'society without cash,' have changed their plans to take into account risks and threats from Russia. The Ministry of Defence recommends that people regularly use cash and have a cash reserve for at least one week.
The Swedish government has completely revised its defense strategy and readiness strategy, joined NATO, created a new national service, and restored the psychological defense agency to combat disinformation from Russia and other enemies. Norway has also strengthened control on the border with Russia.
