Menzies, a former plumber, missed eight match darts before hitting the double chance – that was his ninth match dart.

The atmosphere was truly crazy: He jumped for joy on stage and secured at least £25,000 in prize money this week in the East Midlands.

The match was not a textbook example of sportsmanship: Menzies had an average of 84.45, while former world champion Cross stopped at 81.27.

All 42 missed darts out of 60 attempts came before Menzies, who is ranked 32nd in the world, moved on.

It was his first TV appearance after announcing his split from his ex-girlfriend Fallon Sherrock after four years of relationship.

Menzies said: “I tried to handle the adrenaline. I showed no emotions until I won the first set. I gave it my all.”
“You have to show a little emotion. Sometimes I overdo it.”
“I was calling myself all the names when I missed. I was really scared of the worst.”

“I tried to believe. You have to fight and stay positive.

“It is so refreshing – to win.”

Viewers watching the match at home appreciated his honest emotions.

One fan wrote on X: “You can see how important it is for him. I hope he goes far in this tournament. He deserves it.”
Another added: “You have to praise Cameron Menzies for this victory. He plays on a big stage as if the experience was torture. I didn't think he would win after he missed 5 match darts in the third set. He held himself well.”

Cameron Menzies has sparked great interest among darts fans as his journey through the tournament has been intertwined with personal challenges he has overcome. His emotional reaction on stage only underscored the significance of this moment for him. Such performances inspire young players and are a shining example of willpower and fighting spirit in sports.
