Toto Wolff on Horner's Departure: A True Personality Left the Sport

According to The Sun: MERCEDES chief Toto Wolff openly shared his impressions regarding his relationship with former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

Horner was dismissed from Red Bull last month after a 20-year tenure with the Formula 1 team.

Over the last decade, the Briton and Mercedes chief Wolff have developed a feud off the track that then transferred onto the track through their drivers.

Wolff is now revealing his impressions regarding Horner's departure and its impact on the sport.

“What do I think? Well, he quite often acted like a self-absorbed donkey over the last 12-15 years.
“He has completely different values, but everyone has their best friend, even in their worst enemy.
“On the other hand, he worked well. Now that he is gone, at least for some period of time, the absence of a true personality is palpable in the sport.
“He was conflicting and unifying, but he was a key player here.
“One could say he was as important as a great driver. I think we practically don’t have many old-fashioned team principals in the world of Formula 1.
“Maybe just me. Maybe Fred (Vasseur) is also a bit stuck.”

When asked about the thrilling title fight between then Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull star Max Verstappen in 2021, which ended with the Dutchman winning the first Formula 1 championship in controversial circumstances, Wolff added: “It has always been an interesting story.

“This season, but particularly 2021, was not just about Max and Lewis, it was about Christian and me. And sometimes it was very hard, it will stay in memory for centuries.

“He always said that I love to hate him. Now who do I have to be upset with? It seems that I will have to find a new one...”

Both drivers will not be able to compete for the title this year due to unfavorable early results of the season.

After six months at Ferrari, Hamilton found himself in sixth place in the title fight.

Meanwhile, Verstappen is currently in third place behind McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff expressed his impressions regarding the resignation of Red Bull principal Christian Horner, emphasizing his importance in the world of Formula 1 and candidly sharing his own impressions of communication with him.
