According to an RNC press release, the accident took place at an intersection, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles.
Hartnett, known for his roles in 'Pearl Harbor' and 'Oppenheimer', was taken to the hospital with minor injuries along with his 59-year-old driver.
The officer also received medical assistance to prevent complications.
The accident is currently under investigation.
Hartnett's representative told Page Six that the star has “already been discharged from the hospital and returned to work.”
Hartnett has been filming in Newfoundland since August for an unnamed Netflix series about a small fishing town that comes under attack from a mysterious sea creature.
The cast also includes Willow Keen, Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell, and Caleb Horn.
The release date for the series has not yet been announced.

The actor, who lives in the UK with his wife Tamsin Egerton and their four children, has recently kept a low profile.
He was last spotted filming 'Believe' in New York alongside Dakota Johnson in March.
This comes on the heels of the sad news that 'Grey's Anatomy' actor and renowned photographer Brad Everett Young died in a car accident at the age of 46.
Earlier this month, Young was struck by a car driving in the wrong direction while returning home from a film.
He died at the scene of the accident on Ventura Highway in Los Angeles, while another driver was hospitalized and survived, according to his representative.
Brad Everett Young began his acting career in the late 1990s and remained a prominent figure on Hollywood's red carpets, appearing in films such as 'Love and Basketball', 'Charlie's Angels', and 'I Love You, Man', as well as TV shows like 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Boy Meets World.'
