Boxer Entered Sparring with Golovkin Without Gear: How It All Ended.
A Real Challenge for Heavyweights
According to The Sun: George Groves decided to participate in sparring with one of the most feared boxers of all time, despite not being in his best shape - overweight, tired, and under the scorching sun. This led to a broken rib.
Groves had just suffered a defeat to Carl Froch in May 2014 when he received the offer to join Gennady Golovkin's training camp. Golovkin was in his prime and preparing for serious fights at that time.
“This was a great opportunity to be alongside one of the best boxers, even though I wasn't in the best shape,” recalls Groves.
Groves' decision showcases his courage and desire to improve his skills, even in the face of risks. Sparring with strong opponents like Golovkin can significantly impact a boxer's career, but it's important not to overexert, especially during a tough recovery period after a loss. This is underscored by the fact that even the best boxers can get injured if they are not attentive to their condition. In the future, it is important to adapt training to individual physical preparedness to avoid similar incidents.
