According to The Sun: In one of his conversations with Nick Mason from Pink Floyd, he mentioned the first meetings with 'the mad diamond'. This happened in late 1964 or early 1965 when the band was still called The Tea Set and was rehearsing in a basement cafe at Regent Street Polytechnic in London.

The drummer recalls that at that time they did not have much equipment, and the rehearsals took place in quite modest conditions. However, the atmosphere was filled with energy and creativity, which later led them to popularity.

“This name was just a stage in our journey,” emphasized Mason.
