The winner of the Ballon d'Or 2025 has been named: who received the main trophy.
According to The Sun: Some of the best players on the planet have been nominated for the Ballon d'Or prize - the most prestigious individual award in football.
The winner of the Ballon d'Or is determined through a two-stage voting process.
The first stage involves collaboration between journalists from the French publications France Football and L'Equipe to compile a list of thirty official nominees, which was announced on August 7, 2025.
This list is based solely on the performances of players from the past season and may occasionally include information from a selected group of former players.
Once the shortlist is formed, a journalist representing each of the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations is invited to participate in the voting, each selecting their top 10 players.
The voting system awards points for each selection - the first choice receives 15 points, the second receives 12, followed by 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point for the subsequent ranks.
After all votes are cast, points are tallied, and the Ballon d'Or is awarded to the player with the highest total score.
The remaining nominees are ranked based on their final scores from second to thirtieth place.
If there is a tie in points between players, the decision is made first based on the number of first-place votes.
If they are still tied in points, then the number of second-place votes is considered, followed by third, and so on...
