Nottingham Forest appoints new head coach: what we know about Ange Postecoglou

NEW HEAD OF NOTTINGHAM FOREST

According to The Sun: NOTTINGHAM FOREST is preparing for a new chapter at City Ground after the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Ange Postecoglou is expected to be in contention for the new coaching position.

The former Tottenham coach, 60-year-old specialist, is likely to play his first away match against Arsenal.

However, due to the closure of the transfer window, the Australian will not be able to sign new players until January.

Therefore, he will have to work with the current squad for the time being.

SQUAD AND STYLE OF PLAY

How will Postecoglou shape his team for the confrontation with former rivals? What significant changes might occur in the attack?

Matz Sels, although wearing number 26, will certainly remain the number one goalkeeper for Forest.

The Belgian international was included in the PFA Team of the Year last season, sharing the Golden Gloves with David Raya.

In defense, Nikola Milenković and Murillo will likely remain as the central defenders, despite the 0-3 home defeat to West Ham in the last match.

Changes on the wings are unlikely to occur in the away game against Arsenal, where Ola Aina and Neco Williams hope to maintain their places in the starting eleven.

Oleksandr Zinchenko arrived on transfer deadline day on loan from Arsenal, but although he cannot play against his club, the Ukrainian did not come to the East Midlands to sit on the bench – he desires to play.

POSTECOGLU'S STRATEGY

Postecoglou favored a 4-3-3 tactic at Tottenham and will certainly stick to this at Nottingham Forest.

This means that rookie Eliot Anderson will become the heart of the team in midfield alongside Ibrahim Sangare or loaned Douglas Luiz, while playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White will be in the starting eleven.

James McAtee, signed in the summer from Manchester City for £30 million, is eager to secure a definite place in the squad.

Forest has several options for the number 10 position and on the wings, initially spending £35 million on Dan Ndoe and another £30 million on Dilan Baka.

But the most notable signing is Omari Hutchinson, purchased for £37.5 million from Ipswich.

Ndoe came on in the game against the Hammers, while Callum Hudson-Odoi played on the other wing, but the new coach will have the task of establishing the starting lineup for upcoming matches.

It is also worth giving the chance to the new most expensive player.

In attack, the former Celtic coach may be forced to skip last season's top scorer Chris Wood or rookie Arno Callimviedo for £26 million.

However, the experienced Wood will certainly be a more reliable choice for the start.

UPCOMING MATCHES

Forest will play against Swansea in the third round of the EFL Cup on September 17, before starting their Europa League campaign on September 24.

With a lot of matches ahead – five games in 15 days – Postecoglou will have many opportunities for squad rotation and to give chances to young talents.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST is currently at a critical stage as the appointment of a new coach could significantly affect the team's performance. After changes in the coaching staff, it is important for players to ensure stability and understand the new tactics. With new challenges on the horizon, the chances of success largely depend on how quickly Postecoglou can adapt the team to his requirements.
