Melbourne Stadium to Receive £1 Billion for Renovation: What Will Change.
Renovation Plans for Melbourne Cricket Ground
According to The Sun: The legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is preparing for a massive renovation, costing £1 billion. After the work is completed, the stadium's capacity will increase to 105,000 seats, and the stands dedicated to cricket legend will be modernized.
Located in Victoria, Australia, the MCG has long been renowned for its enormous size and history as one of the most significant venues for sporting and cultural events.

Since its opening in 1853, the stadium has undergone several renovations: the first one took place in 1992, and the second in 2006.
Currently, plans have been presented for a third renovation costing £1 billion, aimed at increasing capacity by 10,000 seats.
“The modernization of the Shane Warne stand, in honor of the Australian cricket legend who tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 52, is also part of these plans,”explain the stadium's management.
This renovation will not only provide more space inside the MCG but will also simplify movement around the arena by opening new large aisles in the northern part.

New dining areas will also appear in the renovated part of the stadium. The Shane Warne stand will offer new 180-degree views of Yarra Park in southeastern Melbourne.
There is a possibility that a new hotel will be built behind it. Although this development has not yet been approved, £7 million has been preliminarily allocated for it from the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Victorian government.
However, the renovation work is planned to begin only in 2030.
The estimated duration of the project will be at least two to three years. The management also hopes to improve lighting, seating, and other facilities at the stadium.
During the renovation, the capacity of the MCG may decrease from 95,000 to 70,000, but this will allow the stadium to continue hosting major events such as the AFL finals.
As a result of the renovation, the Melbourne Cricket Ground will become a 105,000-seat stadium, placing it fifth among the largest arenas in the world.
With the implementation of the new plans, the stadium will not only preserve its uniqueness but also become more comfortable for visitors. The modernization of the Shane Warne stand underscores the tribute to this remarkable figure in cricket, as well as continuing MCG's traditions as a central place in Australian sporting life. The opening of new space and improvements to facilities will make the stadium even more attractive for fans in the future.Read also
