The leader of HAMAS, Ismail Haniyeh, called on the international community to recognize Palestine as a state if he has to lead the government.
According to The Sun: The future of the city of Gaza remains uncertain and is currently being decided through diplomatic means. Despite all of Israel's operational plans, negotiations for a possible ceasefire continue, but so far have not yielded any decisive results.
In light of the HAMAS leader's call for the recognition of Palestine as a state if he is appointed to the position, governments and international organizations need to assess the potential consequences for the region. This new development raises even more tension in the already tense situation in the Middle East.
