A World First: Dario Costa Lands and Takes Off from a Moving Train.
Dario Costa's Unprecedented Stunt
According to TSN.ua: Italian stunt pilot Dario Costa has achieved a world first by successfully landing an aircraft on a moving train and then taking off again. This remarkable feat was performed using a highly agile Zivko Edge 540 plane, which demonstrated exceptional precision and control during the complex aerial maneuver. Such a stunt pushes the boundaries of what is considered possible in aviation aerobatics.
The ambitious project, which began in 2024, was realized with support from Red Bull. Executing the stunt required immense effort and meticulous planning, as the train was traveling at approximately 120 km/h (about 75 mph) during the landing and takeoff sequence. This high-speed platform added a significant layer of difficulty to the already dangerous operation.
“Landing on the train was one of the most complex and demanding projects of my entire career.”
Dario Costa
This achievement not only highlights the extreme capabilities of modern pilots but also sets a new benchmark for stunt performance. The complexity of the task could inspire further research into aviation safety and the technical limits of aircraft. Costa's success may motivate other aviators to pursue innovative ways to demonstrate skill and courage, potentially expanding the horizons for future aerobatic displays.
