Stationery, clothing, gadgets: how much will it cost to prepare a child for school in 2024.
Ukraine is preparing for the new academic year 2024/2025, and this leads to an increased demand for school supplies. Analyzing prices at the country's largest markets, analysts found that demand starts to grow in July and peaks in mid-August.
According to The Page, the cost of school supplies is moderately increasing in 2024. Notebooks with 12-24 pages and a simple cover can be purchased from 5 hryvnias, and with bright covers - from 10 hryvnias. A set of 20 notebooks costs on average from 100 to 300 hryvnias. School diaries range in price from 24 to 150 hryvnias, orthopedic backpacks average 999 hryvnias, and old backpacks - 400 hryvnias. A sports bag costs 200 hryvnias for a new one or 140 hryvnias for a used one, and a lunchbox - around 179 hryvnias.
The cost of folders for notebooks averages 60 hryvnias, pencil cases - 195 hryvnias, and sets of colored pencils - 108 hryvnias. Prices for stationery sets have decreased by 22% compared to last year and average 210 hryvnias.
Regarding clothing, prices for school clothes have noticeably increased. New pants for boys cost around 300 hryvnias, shirts - 212 hryvnias, and embroidered shirts - 414 hryvnias. For girls, a new blouse costs 250 hryvnias, a skirt - 230 hryvnias, and a dress - 300 hryvnias. As for shoes, they have increased by 52% compared to last year. Sneakers cost on average 530 hryvnias, and shoes - 350 hryvnias.
Smartphones and laptops are becoming increasingly popular for learning. The average price of a laptop on the secondary market is 6750 hryvnias, a smartphone - 4300 hryvnias, and a tablet - 2400 hryvnias. Budget smartphones can be purchased from 1200 hryvnias, and the most affordable laptops - from 2000 hryvnias.
The minimum set of school supplies without clothing and gadgets costs around 2000 hryvnias. However, if you add the costs of wardrobe and electronic devices, the price can increase by several thousand hryvnias per child.
Let's remind that Ukraine will start applying a new grading system for students in grades 5-9 from 2024.
