Challenging the Atlantic Ocean: how Ukrainians are raising funds for military rehabilitation.

A veteran and a shipbuilding master are crossing the Atlantic Ocean by rowing

Member of the 503rd Separate Marine Battalion Ivan Havrylko and shipbuilding master, ocean rower, captain Dmytro Rezvoi are crossing the Atlantic Ocean by rowing. The main goal of this initiative is to raise funds for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers. This is reported by Invictus Ocean/Row4Ukraine.

The Ukrainian team started on December 16, 2024, from Gran Canaria Island (Spain) and plans to complete their journey in Bridgetown (Barbados) between February 17 and 22, 2025, depending on weather conditions. The main goal of the crossing is to raise UAH 2.5 million for facial reconstruction surgeries for 36 Ukrainian soldiers who have sustained mine-explosive injuries.

Initiative by Dmytro Rezvoi

The idea of the expedition belongs to Captain Dmytro Rezvoi, who personally built the boat 'Sofia', on which the participants will cover a route of 3000 nautical miles. As of the end of January 2025, the team has already covered 2100 nautical miles.

«The goal of the expedition is to draw the world's attention back to the war in Ukraine, to remind how much Ukrainians are paying for their freedom, independence, national identity, to show the strength of spirit and will of Ukrainians, and to raise funds for the treatment and rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers», says Invictus Ocean/Row4Ukraine.

It is worth noting that 28-year-old Viktoriia Rozhko, wife of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade soldier Oleksandr Rozhok, spent over a month standing on Mykhailivska Street in Zhytomyr to raise funds for a vehicle for her husband's unit, which is fighting in Kursk.

Earlier, employees of a drone manufacturing company fulfilled the dream of an eight-year-old boy from Kyiv and gifted him a modern gaming console, which the boy refused to buy a drone for the military.
