Russian drone with explosives crashed on Latvian territory

Commander of the National Armed Forces of Latvia Leonid Kalnins reported that the drone that crashed on the country's territory on September 7 was a Russian "Shahed" type drone carrying explosives. This was reported by Latvian media, according to Radio Liberty.

According to Kalnins, the drone was "deactivated", and its analysis is currently being conducted. The armed forces leadership emphasizes that this incident cannot be seen as an open military escalation against Latvia, as the country was not the target of the drone.

Defense Minister Andris Spruds announced plans to strengthen air defense on Latvia's eastern border in response to this event.

Earlier, the Latvian Ministry of Defense reported that a Russian drone had crashed in the Rezekne district of the country, having arrived from Belarus territory. It is worth noting that since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, this is the first recorded instance of Russian drones penetrating Latvian territory.
