Yield of late crops is decreasing due to heat
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy predicts a significant decrease in the yield of late crops due to the abnormal heat in July.
This was stated by the acting Minister Taras Vysotskyi during a single telethon broadcast.
"There is, unfortunately, a negative impact. Obviously, such untypically high temperatures caused stress in the plants and therefore cannot go unnoticed," he said.
Early crops like wheat, barley, rye, rapeseed, millet, and peas were less affected. In the south and east, the yield decreased, but it increased in the center and north. Therefore, on average, said the acting minister, the national figure will be about 5% lower.
"However, the late crop group will face more negative consequences. This includes corn, soybeans, and sunflowers. In most regions, the yield will be reduced," Vysotskyi said.
According to preliminary estimates, the yield of late crops will fall by 15% due to heat.
