Dollar and Euro Hit Records: When Will the Currency Decline.
According to ТСН: In early January 2026, the exchange rates of the dollar and euro again reached historical highs. However, in the near future, according to forecasts, the market may stabilize.
Doctor of Economics Olexiy Plotnikov shared in an exclusive comment what levels to prepare for regarding the dollar and euro exchange rates during the period from January 12 to 18.
The official dollar rate has exceeded 43 hryvnias for the first time. Plotnikov noted that globally the situation is not critical, as the annual forecast set in the state budget is 45.70 UAH/USD.
“International institutions require Ukraine to undergo a certain devaluation of the hryvnia. The rate is currently on its way to 45 UAH/USD. We do not have enough external financial assistance to completely cover the budget deficit. Therefore, the NBU accelerated the devaluation to improve the situation thanks to Western support,” the economist noted.
If no extraordinary circumstances arise, the regulator will keep the hryvnia within 43-43.50 UAH/USD until approximately summer, after which the rate may again approach 45.70 UAH/USD.
What to Expect from the Euro Rate
The official hryvnia to euro exchange rate exceeded the psychological barrier on January 9, stopping at 50.17 UAH. The dynamics of currencies depend not on the decisions of the National Bank but on the ratio of major currencies in the market. Olexiy Plotnikov believes that it is not worth talking about a sharp depreciation anytime soon.
He also advises not to rush to exchange offices for foreign currency, especially if you do not have extra money. Soon the growth rate may slow down.
It was previously reported that in Ukraine during the next week, from January 12 to 18, the demand for currency may decrease. This creates grounds for predicting the strengthening of the hryvnia.
Thus, despite certain difficulties, market trends show that the situation may stabilize, and the hryvnia has chances for strengthening in the coming weeks if unforeseen fluctuations do not occur in the market.
