Kursk operation: What's happening in Russian-controlled cities and villages

Russian forces have decided to increase shelling of settlements in the Kursk region, which are controlled by the Defense Forces of Ukraine. This was announced by the spokesperson for the operational-tactical group "Siversk" Vadym Mysnyk. He also noted that Ukrainian military continue their operation and fulfill their assigned tasks.

A severe humanitarian situation prevails in the Kursk region. The local population is gripped by panic as no evacuation was organized, and now they are left without water and electricity. Ukrainian forces are providing food supplies and medicine and trying to create normal living conditions. However, residents of many settlements, particularly the town of Sudzha, are forced to spend nights in basements due to increased shelling activity. Russia unjustifiably attacks them with guided aerial bombs and FPV drones. In recent days, the Russian army has destroyed an ice arena and a modern building of a boarding school.

According to Mysnyk, the majority of the local population understands the situation and desires peace. They are asking for passes for evacuation, but Russia does not agree to this. Ukrainian military are conducting propaganda among the local residents, showing photo exhibitions of the destruction of Ukrainian cities and films about Russian crimes. However, the population perceives this information ambiguously.

According to Mysnyk, initially there was fear among the local population, but no resistance is observed. Now, a military commandant office is already operating, stabilization measures are being carried out, and certain territories are being cleaned up. Many people are amazed by the position of Ukrainian military and communicate with them. In the Kursk region, the Ukrainian military managed to continue their advance and took control of some territories. However, the situation in other directions remains complicated.

NATO has stated that the Ukrainian troops' operation in the Kursk region is legitimate. Also, Russia is creating new volunteer territorial defense units in response to the AFU's invasion.

According to experts' estimates, the advance of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region has slowed, but they are trying to secure the acquired territories.
