During the Kursk operation, electronic warfare (EW) and reconnaissance systems played a crucial role in Ukrainian success. These systems "blinded" the Russians and provided valuable intelligence to the Ukrainians.

Thomas Withington, an expert from the Royal United Services Institute, gave an interview to Der Spiegel in which he discussed this technology.

Withington noted that EW and reconnaissance methods and technologies are the most secretive part of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. They rarely come into the spotlight of reports, unlike tanks or infantry fighting vehicles, but they are of great importance in the war.

The expert explains that Ukraine possesses both domestic and foreign EW systems that are extremely effective. Ukraine also has strong programmers who develop special algorithms to counter Russian systems. They are able to analyze the electromagnetic spectrum and determine how Russia uses these systems.

As a result, the Russians lose the ability to guide artillery with drones and generally do not have a complete picture of the battlefield situation. EW also helps Ukrainians obtain intelligence by detecting Russian communication means.

Russian EW systems turned out to be less effective than expected. Their failure in Kursk has raised serious doubts in relevant circles.
