Legendary San Siro to be Demolished: What Will Be Built in Its Place.
According to inkorr.com: The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, known as San Siro, is soon to be demolished as the football clubs 'Milan' and 'Inter' have officially purchased it from the municipality. This was reported by 'Glavcom'.
The clubs paid local authorities 197 million euros for the stadium and surrounding areas. A new complex is planned to be built on the site of the old stadium, which will accommodate 71,500 spectators and become an architectural symbol of Milan. Construction is set to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2031, so that the stadium can host the UEFA European Championship in 2032.
Andriy Shevchenko emphasized that this is an important step for the future of Milan and Italian football as a whole.
A New Arena for Financial Inflows
The key objective is to increase financial revenues. The new complex will become a commercial and entertainment center, capable of generating up to 130 million euros from ticket sales, as well as additional income from tourism, office space rentals, and other events. It is also planned to sell the rights to the commercial name of the stadium, which could provide each club with up to 25 million euros.
This project will positively impact not only the clubs but also the competitions of national teams. After all, the new stadium will serve as a venue for important football events, particularly during the qualifying tournament for the World Cup. Andriy Shevchenko highlighted the importance of this step for the development of football in Italy and Milan, noting its great prospects for the sport.
