Andrij Schevchenko

Andrij Vitaliyovych Schevchenko is a Ukrainian politician, diplomat, and journalist. Deputy of the Ukraine in the V, VI, and VII legislative periods. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada (2015–2021). Representative of Ukraine in the International Civil Aviation Organization (2017–2021). Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
Place of Birth. Education. Born in the village of Hvyzdets in the Horodenka district of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.
1994 graduated from Alameda High School (California, USA). 1996 - National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy with a focus on political science and economics. 1999 - Institute of Journalism of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv with a specialization in television and international journalism.

Political Career. Since May 2006, Deputy of the Ukrainian people's deputies from Yulia Tymoshenko. In the Verkhovna Rada of the V year, he held the position of Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information. In the VI-year parliament - First Deputy Chairman of this Committee (Chairwoman - Anna Herman from the Party of Regions).
From December 2012 to 2014, Deputy of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada of the VII year from the Fatherland party (No. 33 on the list). First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities, and Interethnic Relations.
According to the results of the extraordinary elections to the Verkhovna Rada on October 26, 2014, he was not elected as Deputy of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada of the VIII year, as he was only No. 20 on the list of the Fatherland party (only the first 17 'list candidates' of the party entered Parliament).
On September 24, 2015, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, appointed Andriy Schevchenko as the Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada.
From September 8, 2017, to August 25, 2021 - Representative of Ukraine in the International Civil Aviation Organization (in an honorary capacity).
On August 25, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Andriy Schevchenko from the position of Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada.
On February 21, 2023, appointed Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for European Integration.

Awards. Awarded the 'Journalist of the Generation' prize (2001), named after Volodymyr Kosovschuk for the film 'Face of the Protest' (2003). Winner of the Press Freedom Awards from the international human rights organization 'Reporters Without Borders' (2005).
Family. Wife - Anna Homonai, host of the Inter channel. The couple raises daughters Marichka (2004) and Sofiika (2018).
Father - Vitaliy Schevchenko (1954-2018), former chairman of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting.
