In his will, Dan left £30,000 each to his two brothers, Jamie and Joshua, and £20,000 to Emmy Devriess, who had custody of his son. The rest of his fortune was bequeathed to his ten-year-old son, on the condition that he receives the money when he turns 21.

Paul often shared his love for his son on social media and posted touching captions for their photos together. One of his quotes was:

Originally from Chigwell, Essex, Dan is best remembered as Sol Patrick from the show Hollyoaks, in which he appeared from 1997 to 2001. In 2005, he participated in the reality show ITV Celebrity Love Island and returned in its second season in 2006.

In 2017, Paul took part in Celebrity Big Brother, hoping for a fresh start in his career. He also appeared on Celebrity Coach Trip and the comedy show The Kevin Bishop Show on Channel 4.
