Lviv may host one of the most prestigious esports tournaments in the world.
The International Esports Federation is considering Lviv as the venue for the IESF World Esports Championships 2025. This was stated by the head of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine's esports commission, Denys Davydov. If a positive decision is made, notable representatives from the International Olympic Committee and ministers of sports from European countries are expected to attend the event. The competition will likely take place at the 'Lviv Arena' stadium.
However, no specific date for the world championship in esports has been announced yet. The competition program includes games such as Counter-Strike 2 (both male and female categories), Dota 2, PUBG Mobile (both male and female categories), Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, eFootball, and possibly Street Fighter 6, which will be chosen by the host country.
Unfortunately, the friendly national teams of Ukraine for Counter-Strike 2 (male) and Dota 2 are currently unknown. The first represents the team Team Next Level, while the latter represents Apple City Gang.
It is also worth mentioning Yevhen Melnyk, a young Ukrainian karateka who refused to be photographed with a Russian athlete during the awards ceremony at a karate tournament in Spain. Such an expression of patriotic feelings and dedication to Ukraine in sports competitions deserves recognition.
