Lviv doctors performed surgery on a 6-year-old girl using a robotic surgeon.
In Lviv, doctors are saving the life of a six-year-old girl with a rare disease by performing surgery using a robotic surgeon. This was reported by the First Medical Association of Lviv.
Polina Bidiuk suffers from Wilkie's syndrome, which causes intestinal obstruction due to compression of the duodenum by the superior mesenteric artery. She was diagnosed with "appendicitis," but further examinations revealed the real problem.
"The essence of this syndrome is that the superior mesenteric artery compresses the duodenum, through which the food we consume actually passes,"
Treatment with medication was ineffective, so Polina was referred to doctors in Lviv. There it was decided to perform surgery using the Da Vinci Si robotic surgeon.
The procedure lasted two hours, during which a bypass was created for food to restore normal passage through the intestine.
Thanks to the robotic surgeon, the risks during the operation were reduced, ensuring high precision and minimal invasiveness.
After the surgery, Polina is gradually recovering, returning to a normal diet, and gaining weight again.
