Operators have gained the right to block numbers: who will be affected by the new rule.
Ukrainian mobile operators have received the green light to block unwanted spam calls and numbers used by fraudsters. This decision was made by Taras Stetsenko, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Electronic Communications of the Ministry of Digital Transformation. Previously, according to him, there were no defined legal mechanisms for such actions.
'The issue is not about the technical capabilities of blocking, but about the proper legal permits, as we operate within the framework of the law, and each blocking must be approved or confirmed,'emphasized Stetsenko.
Operators will use special automated systems to detect suspicious numbers based on their activity. Furthermore, complaints from subscribers who report the issue will play a significant role in this process. After identifying a suspicious number, operators will carry out additional checks before blocking or restricting access.
This new capability will help combat phone fraud and limit unwanted spam calls in Ukraine. It is also worth noting that SIM cards of Ukrainians will no longer be blocked due to technical discrepancies.
The decision to block unwanted spam calls and fraud numbers will help improve the quality of telecommunications services in Ukraine and reduce the inconvenience associated with receiving unwanted phone calls. Operators will use new technologies and systems to tackle these problems, ensuring safer and more convenient communication for their subscribers.
