Maguichih and Levchenko made it to the list for the first stage of the Diamond League.
The organizers of the Diamond League, the most prestigious commercial series of athletics competitions, have published on their official website the list of participants for the first stage of the new 2025 season, which will take place in Xiamen, China. Two Ukrainian athletes will participate in it.
The first stage of the new Diamond League season will be held on April 26 in Xiamen, China. Ukraine will be represented by two athletes competing in the high jump: indoor European champion Yaroslava Maguichih and vice-champion of Ukraine Yuliya Levchenko.
Maguichih has already defended her title as the winner of the Diamond League final in 2024. Levchenko has also participated in Diamond League competitions before, but the last time was in June 2024. Levchenko has three silver medals from the Diamond League finals in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
These are the first official competitions in the summer part of the season for both Ukrainian jumpers. Additionally, Maguichih returns to competition after an injury sustained at the end of the last indoor season.
Let us remind you that Maguichih won the bronze medal at the 2025 Indoor Athletics World Championship held in Nanjing, China. In the final, she cleared the bar at a height of 1.95 meters but was unable to clear 1.97 meters.
Also at these competitions was Kateryna Tabashnyk from Ukraine, who finished in ninth place with a result of 1.89 meters.
The winner was Australia's Nicola Olyslaagers, who cleared a height of 1.97 meters and beat her compatriot Eleanor Patterson on the number of attempts. Patterson also won the silver medal with the same result.
