Almost $10 million for Ukraine: Norwegian PM announced financial support for the evacuation of the wounded.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced a new financial aid package for wounded Ukrainians. These funds will allow the evacuation of the wounded for treatment in Europe. This was reported by VG.
According to Støre, the Norwegian government has decided to extend the evacuation program for severely wounded Ukrainians for treatment in Europe. Norway will allocate 100 million kroner to continue this mission, which includes the use of a specially equipped airplane providing flying intensive care.
The Prime Minister stated that such a program is extremely important for severely wounded Ukrainians. The SAS airplane, which has been reconfigured since August 2022, will continue evacuations until April 2025. The agreement between Norway and the EU was planned to end in November.
It is very important to transport a part of the severely wounded for treatment. We have an airplane and crew that have great international recognition so that we can perform this work
Almost half of all evacuated severely wounded Ukrainians were transported by this plane, totaling 1931 people. Most of them suffer from cancer, injuries, or combat wounds.
Norway has already provided assistance to 400 patients in its medical facilities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to discuss this initiative with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre during meetings at the UN General Assembly.
Recall that since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Norway has provided 1.8 billion Norwegian kroner (about 160 million euros) for the needs of the Ukrainian army and the restoration of Ukraine's infrastructure.
Ukrainians affected by the war will receive financial assistance from Norwegian charities.
According to the Norwegian Immigration Service, more than 70 thousand Ukrainians currently live in the country under temporary collective protection status. The largest centers of Ukrainians are located in Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim, and Drammen.
