Grimsby welcomes Manchester United

Thousands of home fans are expected to bring legendary inflatable 'Harry Haddocks', hoping for a United defeat.

Grimsby is famous for its fishing heritage on the northern Lincolnshire coast, and the local club is nicknamed 'The Mariners'.

The Southern Hampshire post BANNED inflatable Harry Haddocks during the FA Cup match, but later had to change its decision under pressure from fans and the media.

According to a club spokesman:

“We recently provided 2000 inflatable fish to fans, so we fully expect to see a large number of them in the stadium for the match against United.”

“Without a doubt, this is the biggest match for the club since they last played against Manchester United in 1948!”

Harry Haddock first appeared during the FA Cup campaign in 1989, looking more like a rainbow trout.

This tradition of bringing inflatable items to matches started with Manchester City in 1987.

When they played at Wimbledon Stadium, 7000 'Mariners' fans outnumbered the local fans, and accordingly, most of them held inflatable creatures.

Even the host of 'Match of the Day' Des Lynam showed a giant fish in the studio before showing moments of the game in which the fourth league 'Mariners' lost 3-1.

Harry also reappeared at Wembley during the 'Mariners' victory in the EFL Trophy against Bournemouth in 1998, with a new design that looked more like a herring.

The club re-launched Harry three years ago, and he has become a popular item in their store.

During the FA Cup campaign that led Grimsby to the quarter-finals, they even sold out their last stock of inflatable fish.

If Grimsby manages to stun United, it will be a true highlight of the match.
