Manchester United breaks winless streak: Bruno Fernandes scores from the penalty spot to secure victory over Burnley.
According to The Sun: A late penalty from Bruno Fernandes gave 'Manchester United' their first win of the season, despite the team losing their lead twice in the match against 'Burnley'.
'United' had a great chance to take all three points before half-time, showcasing bright football, but a lack of caution led to unforeseen consequences.
GettyManchester United remained winless this season after a 2-2 draw with 'Burnley'.Ruben Amorim could not afford a loss, as the last time 'United' were defeated by a newly-promoted team was a 4-1 loss to 'Watford', which led to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal in 2021.
However, this game with many mistakes was not the coach's fault, as fatal defensive errors and a critical blunder by goalkeeper Altay Bayindir gave unexpected momentum to Scott Parker's team.
United Players' Performances
Altay Bayindir – 1
I can't believe how Bayindir – or André Onana, as we're mentioning him – can remain at the club.
After a quiet first half, the Turkish goalkeeper made a glaring mistake that led to Burnley's second goal.
It's just ridiculous at this point.
Diogo Dalot – 3
Pity him, as he did not look confident in attack as a wing-back and almost always made mistakes.
Matthijs De Ligt – 6
Had a solid first half and looked like an important figure in defense.
A perfectly acceptable performance for a team that conceded cheap goals.
Leny Yoro – 6
Seems he is now a new target at set-pieces after Harry Maguire went to the bench.
The only one actively involved in the fight, helping in the chaos in midfield at times.
Started the game decently but could have done better at both Burnley goals.
Luke Shaw – 5
Shaw is now part of a three-man defense, so it’s odd to see him getting tangled up with Dalot at times.
Provided support on the left and played well with teammates. Tuned out at the moment of the first equalizer.
Casemiro – 6
When fans started singing: “Glory to Amorim returns”, Casemiro lost out to opponent Leslie Ugochukwu early on.
However, his shot led to the goal after the ball ricocheted off the post.
He worked hard, chasing a wide cross that led to a corner for 'United', but did not last beyond 70 minutes.
Bruno Fernandes – 5
After missing a penalty last week, the captain proved his bravery, winning the match in the dying minutes.
He is the only one capable of making the decisive pass and creating a goal — the first goal came after his standard strike.
The captain played well with Mbeumo and Amad, but foolishly received a yellow card after the final score of 2-2.
Amad Diallo – 5
After a poor performance in Grimsby, Amad linked up well with Cunha and Mbeumo.
But the Ivorian winger failed to convert a clear opportunity, sending the ball over the barrier from five yards at the stroke of half-time.
Bryan Mbeumo – 7
After a rough match in Grimsby, Mbeumo sought a chance to atone, showing active play.
The former 'Brentford' player scored his first Premier League goal this season just 15 seconds into the match.
His crosses became a new threat for 'United' and he executed set-pieces excellently.
Mason Mount – 7
Mount's bright start was rewarded after he capitalized on a careless touch from Kyle Walker and tried to break into the penalty area.
Referee Sam Barrott immediately pointed to the nine-meter mark but reversed his decision after a lengthy five-minute review.
He was one of the best in the first half but was substituted at halftime for Mainoo.
Matheus Cunha – 5
Always finds himself in good positions and creates space, but I haven't seen a threatening shot from the Brazilian in his first three matches for 'United'.
The former 'Wolverhampton' player is now doubtful for the first Manchester derby due to injury in the 30th minute.
Substitutes
Joshua Zirkzee (for Cunha, 30th minute) – 4
Got a chance to replace the injured Cunha for his first minutes of the season.
Did not take the opportunity but played an important role in a quick break, passing to Mbeumo, who set up Amad.
Missed a big chance to make it 2-0 when he hopelessly bobbled the ball from eight yards, with only Dudabu in front of him.
Kobbie Mainoo (for Mount at HT) – 5
After discussions about a possible exit from the club, Amorim substituted the midfielder at halftime.
And the English player immediately set up Zirkzee for chances to double the lead.
Involved in the confusion in the penalty area when Bayindir cleared the ball, which then ricocheted to him at 2-2.
Benjamin Sesko (substitutes Casemiro in the 72nd minute) – 4
Desperately wanted to make an impact in the game, but had almost no chances.
Missed a header from six yards five minutes before the end. Had the chance to do better.
And just seconds later, the 6-foot-5 giant again failed to head the ball into the net.
Noussair Mazraoui (for Yoro in the 85th minute) – N/A
Received loud applause upon returning from injury for his first appearance of the season.
This game turned out to be a significant moment for 'Manchester United', which finally managed to break the losing streak. However, the mistakes made in defense highlight extraordinary problems that the team needs to solve to strengthen their chances of success in upcoming matches. The situation remains tense, as the team must rectify its shortcomings if they hope for positive results in the future.
