Martin Tyler Denies Retirement Rumors.
Martin Tyler Continues Commentating
According to The Sun: Martin Tyler has denied rumors of his retirement, stating that he plans to commentate “until I fall off the perch.”
Known as the “voice of the Premier League,” Tyler left his role at Sky Sports in June 2023 after 33 years as a lead commentator.
His departure disappointed fans, as he provided many unforgettable moments. The most famous occurred on the final day of the 2011/12 season when Sergio Aguero scored the winning goal, securing Manchester City's first Premier League title.
Tyler's exit from Sky Sports raised concerns among fans who feared he was retiring for good.
But at 80 years old, he continues to work in football. Last year, Tyler returned to screen, commentating on Benfica's victory in the Champions League group stage against Atletico Madrid on TNT Sports.
He also collaborates with Premier League Productions and hosts a podcast that is approaching 100 episodes.
Despite his age, Tyler has no intention of stopping his work.
“My contract with Sky ended, and they decided not to renew it – that is their right. I had over 30 wonderful years there and can’t say anything bad about them. There were impressions that I am retiring, but that is far from the truth.”
“I still enjoy commentating, and if I can continue to share my love for the game through commentary, I will do it until I fall off the perch.”
Tyler also recalled his famous phrase “Aguerrrrooo” at the moment when Manchester City overtook Manchester United in the title race.
Roberto Mancini's team was losing 1-2 just minutes before the end of the match, but managed to snatch victory with a score of 3-2 and claim the trophy.
“When the score became 2-2, you already knew that a winning goal from Manchester City was quite possible, so you were on edge.”
“I didn’t know what I would say or who would score – it could have been [Edin] “DJEKKOOOO.”
“I was lucky to meet Sergio [Aguero] and have a good chat with him about it. One thing that sounds somewhat arrogant is that I knew he would score, even before he knew, because he made the touch.”
“He was Aguero, so the second touch was only going in one direction. It was incredible.”
GettyMartin Tyler remains an important figure in the world of football, his commentary accompanies great moments in the history of sports. Despite leaving Sky Sports, he continues to delight fans with his work on other channels. Even at an advanced age, he demonstrates a passion for a job that has made him a legend in Ukrainian and worldwide sports circles.
We look forward to Tyler's future projects as his contributions to football and sports journalism continue to inspire new generations.
